Jim Harkin is a Reader in Embedded Computing in the School of Computing and Intelligent Systems and is a member of the Bioinspired Systems and Neuroengineering Research Team team in the Intelligent Systems Research Centre (ISRC). Previously he worked as a researcher in embedded systems design at Ulster on an EPSRC funded project (GR/N26753). He is an active member of the ISRC and his research interests relate to the creation of intelligent reconfigurable systems. His research focuses on FPGA-based Networks-on-Chip strategies and the hardware implementations of SNNs for self-repairing applications. He has author/co-authored over 80 publications and has jointly secured funding totalling £2+ million. He was included in the University’s Computer Science (UoA 23) submission to the RAE 2008, and also UoA 11 in REF2014.
