Jim Harkin is a Lecturer in Embedded Computing in the School of Computing and Intelligent Systems and is a member of the Bio-Inspired and Neuro-Engineering team in the Intelligent Systems Research Centre (ISRC). Previously he worked as a researcher in embedded systems design at Ulster on an EPSRC funded project (GR/N26753). He is an active member of the ISRC and his research interests relate to the creation of intelligent reconfigurable systems. Dr. Harkin’s PhD focused on the exploitation of FPGA programmability and more recently has developed a research profile in FPGA-based NoC strategies and the hardware implementations of SNNs for self-repairing applications. He has author/co-authored over 50 publications and has secured funding totalling £1.8+ million. He was included in the University’s Computer Science (UoA 23) submission to the RAE 2008.
