Dr. Damien Coyle received a first class degree in computing and electronic engineering in 2002 and a doctorate in Intelligent Systems Engineering in 2006 from the University of Ulster. He is currently a Senior Lecturer at the School of Computing and Intelligent Systems and a member of the Intelligent Systems Research Centre at the University of Ulster. His research interests include biosignal processing, bio-inspired cognitive and adaptive systems, neural modelling and brain-computer interface technology.
Dr. Coyle is a Senior Member of the IEEE and chairs the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society (CSI) UKRI Chapter, the IEEE CIS Chapters subcommittee and is past chair of the IEEE CIS GOLD (graduates of the last decade) subcommittee, and inaugural chair of the IEEE CIS Brain-Computer Interface Task Force (BCITF) and a member of the IEEE CIS Regional Ambassador Program Subcommittee. He is also a member of the executive committee of the IEEE Engineering and Biology Society (UK&RI Chapter) and a member of the IET and the International Neural Network Society (INNS).
Dr. Coyle is a University of Ulster Distinguished Research Fellow and the 2008 recipient of the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award and 2011 recipient of the International Neural Network Society's Young Investigator of the Year Award and a Royal Academy of Engineering/The Leverhulme Trust Senior Research Fellow in 2012-2013.
